| Jia
Address: 1-5 Irving St., Hong Kong
Description:
The first boutique hotel designed by Philippe Starck in Asia is a wonder to behold, beginning with the (see-and-be-) scene in the lobby, bar, and restaurant, making it one of the hippest places to drink or dine in town. Although the sculptural furniture and accompanying trendiness won't be everyone's cup of tea, this is still a groundbreaking concept that is helping to redefine the modern Hong Kong hotel landscape. For instance, it doesn't have rooms; rather, it has "apartments," with mini-kitchens, dining tables, and cookware. You can choose between smaller "studios" or the larger one-bedroom "suites," which have separate bedrooms. Will the design of this hotel feel "so 2006" 10 years hence? Perhaps. But for the moment, Jia is the place.
